Experience Required
This role is suited to someone with a strong technical understanding of cable harness design, manufacture, components, and customer specifications, combined with the commercial ability to produce accurate quotations, follow up opportunities, and convert enquiries into orders. The successful candidate will act as a key link between customers, engineering, purchasing, production, and quality teams to ensure customer requirements are properly understood, costed, quoted, and delivered. Required Skills and Experience Essential- Experience in a technical sales, estimating, applications engineering, production engineering, or customer-facing engineering role.
- Good understanding of bespoke cable harnesses, wiring looms, cable assemblies, or electromechanical assemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, BOMs, and customer specifications.
- Knowledge of cable harness components such as connectors, terminals, wire, cable, sleeving, conduit, heatshrink, labels, glands, and protective coverings.
- Ability to prepare accurate quotations from technical information.
- Strong commercial awareness, including costings, margins, lead times, and customer pricing.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Confident dealing directly with customers and suppliers.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple enquiries at different stages.
- Competent with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Full Driving License
- Possess all requirements for successfully meeting formal Security Check (SC) criteria
- Experience within a cable harness, electronics, electrical assembly, contract manufacturing, or engineering manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 or similar wiring harness standards.
- Experience with CRM, MRP, or quotation systems.
- Understanding of crimping, soldering, wire preparation, looming, braiding, overmoulding, potting, testing, and inspection processes.
- Familiarity with low-volume, high-mix bespoke manufacturing.
- Experience working with sectors such as defence, aerospace, rail, automotive, industrial equipment, medical devices, or energy.
- Ability to produce or amend basic BOMs, routings, and manufacturing documentation.
- Knowledge of component sourcing and supplier management.
- HNC, HND, degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in electrical engineering, electronics, manufacturing engineering, or a related discipline.
- Technical training in cable harness assembly, electrical assembly, or production engineering.
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 awareness or certification.
- Technically minded and commercially aware.
- Accurate, methodical, and detail-focused.
- Comfortable interpreting complex customer requirements.
- Confident asking technical questions and challenging unclear specifications.
- Customer-focused, professional, and responsive.
- Able to balance technical accuracy with commercial competitiveness.
- Proactive in following up enquiries and securing orders.

Responsibilities
Sales and Quotation Activity- Review customer enquiries, drawings, wiring schedules, specifications, samples, and bills of materials.
- Prepare accurate and commercially competitive quotations for bespoke cable harness assemblies.
- Identify all materials, components, labour, tooling, testing, and subcontract requirements needed for each quote.
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain pricing and availability for connectors, terminals, cable, sleeving, heatshrink, labels, backshells, conduit, and other components.
- Calculate manufacturing times, production costs, margins, and lead times.
- Maintain accurate records of quotations, pricing assumptions, customer correspondence, and project status.
- Interpret customer technical drawings, wiring diagrams, pin-out schedules, connector specifications, and assembly instructions.
- Clarify technical requirements with customers where information is incomplete or ambiguous.
- Advise customers on manufacturability, component selection, cost reduction opportunities, and alternative solutions.
- Support customers through the enquiry, quotation, prototype, approval, and production stages.
- Attend customer meetings, site visits, or technical reviews where required.
- Build strong relationships with engineering, procurement, and commercial contacts within customer organisations.
- Work closely with production, engineering, purchasing, and quality teams to ensure quoted solutions are practical, achievable, and compliant.
- Support handover of new orders into production, ensuring all technical and commercial details are clearly communicated.
- Assist with the creation or review of build packs, work instructions, BOMs, routings, and test requirements where required.
- Raise technical queries internally and externally to resolve issues before manufacture.
- Support continuous improvement in quotation accuracy, costing methods, and sales processes.
- Reviewing new customer RFQs for cable harness assemblies.
- Checking drawings, connector references, cable specifications, and wiring schedules.
- Contacting suppliers for component pricing and availability.
- Estimating labour time for cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, sleeving, assembly, inspection, and test.
- Preparing and issuing formal quotations.
- Discussing technical queries with customers.
- Attending internal production or engineering meetings.
- Supporting handover of a newly won project into production.
- Updating CRM, quotation logs, and sales pipeline information.
- Accuracy and timeliness of quotations.
- Quote conversion rate.
- Gross margin achieved on quoted work.
- Customer response times.
- Quality of technical handovers to production.
- Reduction in quotation errors or missing information.
- Contribution to improved costing and quotation processes.
